We applied this experience – and our students’ great track record of success – to create Achieve Virtual. It is operated by the Metropolitan School District of Wayne. Students in our district earn approximately 4,500 credits each year through virtual education. Achieve Virtual is Indianas only online high school from an Indiana public school district. We later launched an online hybrid learning lab at our Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center. Students who previously felt they would never graduate were finding success. This is a blended environment of virtual education and direct teacher interaction, with teachers guiding students through the online curriculum in a computer lab, allowing the teachers to work one-on-one with each student.

Teachers were required to have weekly contact with the students to ensure success.Īfter the success of Indiana Online Academy, the district’s night school and alternative school launched online credit recovery. We became successful because of the high quality of our teachers and our curriculum. The Indiana Online Academy expanded and was geared for students who needed to earn additional credits for any one of a variety of reasons. It soon became apparent virtual education could benefit students from all over Indiana. According to state test scores, 39 of students are at least proficient in math and 58 in reading. It has 7,589 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 14 to 1. The Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township in Indianapolis started the Indiana Online Academy in 1999, the first online school in Indiana. Wayne Township Public School District is a highly rated, public school district located in WAYNE, NJ.
